­­­­_____  Stop Newspaper deliveries

_____  “Hold” or “Forward” mail deliveries to return date

_____  Hire a service  for hurricane protection installation

_____  Bag & remove garbage from garage for pick-up

_____  Store exterior furniture & patio and garden decor

 

_____  ALL PCs, Internet, etc should be “OFF”

_____  Unplug all electric appliance that will NOT be used

 

_____  Shut-off wall switch (or circuit breaker)  for hot water heater

_____  Set exterior garage door on “lock” or at circuit breaker

_____  Shut-off interior water at main.

_____  Reset humidistat and thermostat

_____  Close all blinds tightly

_____  Shut-off all interior lights

 

_____  Leave drawers and closet door ajar for ventilation

_____  Clean toilets thoroughly with bleach.  Then add 1-T bleach to fresh water and cover bowls with plastic wrap.

_____  Unplug coffee pot, toaster, microwave, etc.

_____  Empty refrigerator/freezer and shut-off.  Prop doors ajar with  towels

_____  Check that stove burners are off

 

_____  Optional:  Check that answering machine is functional

_____  Optional:  Lamp on timer

_____  Lock front door on exit
